Hey, I'm Kelli!

Socialize

The long summer days in Indianapolis are wonderful and exciting for anyone who has has to endure the cold and dark winter months, but this also becomes a challenge for many of us with young children. Trying to wrangle a 2 year-old into bed while people are still jumping on the trampoline out back and mowing their lawns is not for the weak, trust me.

This also leads to some late times for sunset sessions. If you have every inquired about a session with me you will notice that my photography calendar is set around sunrise and sunset times to ensure we can get the highest quality images and that gorgeous warm light. Most people envision evening sessions because getting up early can be tough, but here are 5 reasons why you might consider booking a sunrise session for your next family session.

Your Family Is Busy

As a mom myself, I know that every family is very busy! Kids activities and sports, evening business meetings, groceries to pick up, meals to prep and church to attend, the list goes on… because of this morning can be a great way to complete your session before you busy day gets started. You can be up, dressed and done with photos before any of your weekend obligations begin!

Kids Are (Usually) Early Risers

This is particularly the case for young children. I myself am a night owl, but my little one hasn’t ever slept in past 7 a.m. Little ones are usually a bit happier at 7 a.m. than they are at 7 p.m… or later depending on your session date. In order to get the best light for your session, I suggest sunrise or sunset for your session. As I mentioned, sunset is very late in the summer season and because of this sunrise might be a great option for your family!

All Ready for the Day

Once we meet for your session and complete your photos or film, your family is ready to go for the day. Everyone is looking nice and hopefully energized by our great morning together. Perhaps you go out for brunch afterwards, go to church as a family or spend the day doing one of your favorite activities. Just another added perk to getting started when the sun rises.

Locations are Less Crowded

During the peak fall season some of the popular Indianapolis family photography locations are extra crowded, especially at sunset. However sunrise is normally much less busy. This leaves us with plenty of space to explore and document your family with beautiful surroundings, plenty of time and very few distractions.

The Light is Fabulous

All of the images in this post were taken at sunrise. We all love the warm glow of the evening sunset, but the colorful and crisp morning sunrise can prove to photograph just as well, if not sometimes better. Looking out our window each morning I am often stopped in my tracks by the beauty of the first light. If your family might do best at this time of day, I encourage you to consider booking your Indianapolis family photography session near sunrise! Get in touch soon to snag a sunrise session spot on my calendar.
