Your Experience with Kelli White Photography | Indianapolis Family Photography

What to expect and how to prepare for your Indianapolis Family Photography Session…

I am excited to be working with some new and returning families this year and I hope everyone is having a great start to 2019! When I work with each family I try my best to follow a consistent workflow so everyone has a high-quality experience from start to finish. Here is a bit more about what you can expect when you choose to work with Kelli White Photography for your family photography.

How to Book?

After we connect through email, web or social I will send you my booking calendar with specific details about your session and any available dates. You can choose any date and time that works for you and place your retainer at the same time. You will also get a link to a session agreement and questionnaire so I can learn more about your family.

This information helps me to prepare for your session, scout out any location ideas you have and gather some info about your personalities and interests. At this point I will be very excited for your session and looking forward to meeting you!

Now on to the fun part… choosing what to wear for your family photos

After you have booked, I will send you a link to my online styling service that will give you ideas and help you to plan out your outfits. I recently wrote a post detailing the service, so you can view this to get an idea of what it offers. I love how it saves you time, provides great and affordable style options and allows you to order online if you so wish! I also wrote a post that offers some additional guidance on styling your session.

What to Know Before Your Session

Finally before we meet I will send you a final email with some last minute reminders to help ensure we are all set on time, date and location. This email will also include your final invoice to be paid prior to your session and information about digital file delivery and printing options.

I also like to remind families that my photography session style is relaxed, connected and candid. I want you to focus on loving your family and I will do the rest. While I will try to get a fairly traditional picture at the beginning of the session, you will not spend the entire session smiling at the camera. I won’t tell your kids to “say cheese” but I may chase them around the park or ask them to feed my silly stuffed owl in order to get some genuine smiles. :)

Once You Arrive

When you arrive at the session location, I will normally be gathering my gear or ready to go right outside my silver subaru (I love my little wagon!). Don’t be too surprised if I spend the first few moments introducing myself to your kiddos. I want them to feel comfortable with me before I start taking pictures, like a family friend, and not like a stranger with a big scary camera. I also like to walk a little bit before our first image, to get to know you more, catch up and connect. Again, you are now my friends and I want everyone to feel relaxed and happy for picture time.

Finally… we will create some memories!

Now that we are all connected and officially friends, I will direct you and your family through some different locations and poses. The key for the adults to remember is to spend the time looking at your beautiful family and enjoying the time together. I will work on getting your kids to laugh or smile (or be serious if that is their personality), and will probably make a total fool out of myself at some point in order to do so - no shame. I want to capture your family’s true personality, unique connection and the joy that always shines through in every session. Each family session lasts about 45 minutes (sometimes a bit less, sometimes a bit more) but I always allow for flexibility depending on your needs.

After the Session

Once we are finished we will all say goodbye and hopefully you will all leave feeling energized and pleased. The BEST compliment for me is when mom or dad gets to the end of the session and says “That was actually a lot of fun!” I want you all to enjoy the experience and the time you get to spend with your family. Even when a child has an unhappy moment during the session or you think we didn’t get many ”good photos” …I promise you can trust me!

Within 1-2 weeks I will send you a link to your family slideshow set to music that has some of the best highlights from your session. This will be for you to download and keep, and/or share with family and friends. After this (2-3 weeks) I will send all of the high-res digital files in an online password protected viewing gallery. From here you can order prints, download your images and have the images for any of your personal use.

Thank You

After your session I will stay in touch. I’ve been known to send emails, holiday gifts, or thank you cards. I appreciate everyone who inquires, or decides to book a session with me. You are supporting me and my little family and I want you all to feel valued and respected. I LOVE my career and being able to document the love and connection of so many wonderful families makes my heart sing! Peace and blessings in the year ahead. I hope to see you soon!

Indianapolis Family Photographer - The Reset Conference - Sarah Hill Studio Session

For those of you that have been following my social media posts and journal you will see that I recently attending The Reset Conference. It was such an amazing experience and I feel so reenergized and motivated, both personally and professionally. There were so many talented artists speakers and entrepreneurs.

Sarah Hill's Studio

Throughout the conference there were a number of chances to watch and learn from other photographers, and following the main conference I had the chance to visit Sarah Hill's studio in downtown Greenwood. It was a small group and we had the opportunity watch her shoot, ask her questions and receive some mentorship from her on how to run a successful business and how to create beautiful imagery.

images from the morning

This family was so adorable and they kids were very sweet and full of energy. Sarah keeps her sessions short and sweet which makes it easier on the family and kids. Here are a few more of the images I captured during our time at the studio.

I love the dreamy tones of the creams and blush. They make for such beautiful skin tones and absorb the light in such a gorgeous way.

Off to find a space

I am officially on the hunt for a studio space! The cold weather months in Indiana don't correlate well with sunny outdoor sessions, so I would love to have a beautiful space where I can host families, couples and newborns during the chilly winter days. It would be a dream come true!

If you are interested in a studio session let me know! I'm exploring a few spaces in Indianapolis and will be sure to share once I have a space to share. I would love to capture your family in studio, inside your home or outdoors during the warmer weather.

This year I am focusing on growing my business and becoming an even better photographer for my families, couples and newborns. I have invested time and energy into learning more about my craft and about how I can create a great experience for each person I serve.

Over the last weekend I had the privilege of attending The Reset Conference in downtown Indianapolis. It was such a fun and exciting conference filled with some INCREDIBLE artists and speakers. I met some great people and learned so much about business, creativity and building relationships with every person who I have the privileged to photograph.

All of the speakers blew me away with their knowledge and passion. I wish I could have attended every single session, but had to pick and choose. Some of my favorites included Elena S Blair and Bre Thurston, who I adore. (and I am planning to attend their retreat in the fall!) They are not only the most genuine and relatable people, but they both cram so much emotion into each one of their images it. is. unreal! They talked about connection, being true to yourself, vulnerable with your work and not being afraid to fail.

Also - Elena and Sandra Coan continue to impress me with the amount of business knowledge they drop. Such empowering and impressive women! Sandra’s work is absolutely stunning and I’ve officially added, “have Sandra Coan take my portrait” to my long term goal list… a girl can dream right???

Sarah Hill was also a lot of fun to listen to and meet because she is also from Indy and she is so comfortable in her own skin and true to her vision that it is contagious, awesome, inspiring…! She spoke about branding and really made me stop think about how I can find a way to be true to myself in my journey of photography and business.

If you are on the fence about attending this conference in the future, do it! It is going down to Lexington, KY next year and the new venue looks amazing.

Kellie and Rebecca, who organize the conference are adorable and did a rock star job of making everything enjoyable and a former event planner, I know this is not an easy task!

Over all it was a fabulous experience and I hope to attend in future years… and maybe, just maybe, one day make it on to that stage to teach and inspire other photographers! :)
